Why do therapists not offer advice?

While there is a time and place for advice, psychotherapy is about helping you discover who you really are by naming, exploring and understanding the adaptive strategies that you have employed as a means of survival which have now become the barriers to you knowing your own authentic self which holds all the answers to your questions.

What you are exploring is how your life isn't working the way it should and that’s because in all likelihood you aren't actually living your own life but someone else's version of what you should be which you have agreed to very early on in order to survive.
